Winter Madness Beneath Babia Góra
Winter Madness Beneath Babia Góra
A record number of 66 participants took part in the latest edition of the Winter Taekwon-do Camp, held from 23–20 January in Zawoja, right beneath Babia Góra. At the Jędruś centre, Małe Smoki, older children, club team members and parents rested, trained and had fun.
Although winter was very mild this year, our participants went to the ski lifts practically every day. The more beginner participants went there to improve their skills independently or under an instructor’s supervision at the “Baca” lift. The more advanced participants had the opportunity to ski at “Mosorny Groń”. It is also worth noting that this was not the only winter attraction, as the campers also used the ice rink.
It is obvious that we train taekwon-do during a sports camp. Coach Ola Raźny looked after Małe Smoki, coach Dobrochna Dolicka worked with the younger children, and coach Adam Wargal with the older ones. Coach Mikołaj Kotowicz conducted special training sessions for the A and B club teams. All this was so that they could compete in the Polish Championships in just over a month!
Sport is one of the two important elements of every camp. The other is having fun, and there was plenty of it. Every evening, the whole group enjoyed a mini-disco. Special attractions included a sleigh ride with a bonfire, a trip to the swimming pool in Wadowice, a visit to the museum of Babia Góra National Park and admission to a salt cave. The adults at the camp also enjoyed the health benefits of the sauna. As an extra activity, one of the mothers held a workshop for the youngest children, where they made pierogi. Two artists from Zawoja also organised a handicraft workshop, where every participant could paint a wooden toy bird themselves.
This year’s winter camp should be considered exceptionally successful. You can already start planning the summer adventure:
7–14 August is the date of the camp for Małe Smoki with guardians, as well as for younger children attending independently
14–28 August is the date of the camp for children attending independently and for teenagers.
