33 medals from the 25th Polish Taekwon-do Championships

33 medals, including 10 gold, were brought home by our team from the 25th International Polish Championships of ZS PUT, held on 17 and 18 March in Ostróda. The Martial Arts Gala also took place during the competition, with as many as four of our athletes participating.

The past weekend was full of excitement and attractions for the athletes of Krakowskie Centrum Taekwon-do. On Friday, an 8-hour coach journey to Ostróda ended with registration at the competition venue and much-needed sleep before the first day of competition.

Saturday belonged to the children and younger cadets. Our ten-member younger team won as many as 15 medals: 3 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze. The children competed in soft-stick sparring, kicking techniques, special techniques and traditional patterns, while the younger cadets had touch-contact sparring instead of soft-stick sparring. In the meantime, the opening ceremony took place in the presence of officials from the city and municipality of Ostróda and ZS PUT.

From 19:00 on Saturday, the Martial Arts Gala “We Fight With Her in Our Hearts! Independent Poland 1918-2018” was held to mark the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. During the gala, 9 semi- and light-contact bouts took place between the best Taekwon-do and Tang Soo D0 competitors. Four of our athletes participated in the gala: Karolina Nowak (light-contact), Adam Zięba (semi-contact), Mateusz Kopciński (light-contact) and Jakub Włodarz (semi-contact). All bouts involving KCT ended with victories for our representatives. The gala featured an extraordinary production and tremendous emotions.

After the gala, it was time to sleep before Sunday’s competition.

The second day of the competition was dedicated to older athletes in the cadet, junior and senior categories. Medals were contested in semi- and light-contact sparring, traditional patterns and special techniques. That day we won as many as 18 medals, including 7 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze. In the senior category, we took 1st place in the medal standings.
