Impressions from the Summer Sports Camp in Kasinka Mała
The Summer Sports Camp has just come to an end. This is our new formula for holiday recreation, based on the child’s all-round sporting development, rather than solely on learning and improving taekwon-do. The camp took place at the “Lubogoszcz” Training and Recreation Centre, where we had a large area, sports fields, common rooms and training halls at our disposal, as well as the surrounding forest. The weather was favourable, and we were able to make full use of the advantages of this place.
On the day of our arrival, our first major activity awaited us immediately after getting off the coach: a one-hour walk to the centre. Most of the route followed the black trail leading to the summit of Lubogoszcz. It was not easy. Fortunately, everyone reached the base, where our luggage was waiting for us. That day, there were integration activities, taekwon-do training, an introduction to the rules and a mini-disco.
The day after our arrival, our campers had a host of attractions waiting for them: a zip line, a climbing wall and an outdoor team game. This took up the entire morning; everyone was happy, and no one could decide what they liked best. All the attractions will remain in their memories for a long time.
Over the following days, due to the sunny weather, we often spent time on the sports field or playground. The children were divided into two training and sports groups, and activities were held in these groups. There was football and volleyball, and we also taught the children how to play baseball. There was also free time outdoors. Bows, boules and badminton nets were set up. During this time, everyone could do whatever they wanted, spend time actively, or talk and strengthen their bonds.
Taekwon-do training was held once a day. It took place in the hall or on the sports field, depending on the time of day and the planned exercises. Training for the older group was led by Coach Ludwik together with Coach Dawid, who worked on sparring and kicks. The younger group was supervised by Coach Magda and Coach Kamila. The exercises focused on coordination, kicks and sparring with soft pads; on one day, a competition was held. We divided the participants into three groups according to height so that the chances would be equal. The excitement reached fever pitch, even among the oldest participants. The winners received certificates and a hug from the president.
Having spent the week at the “Lubogoszcz” Training and Recreation Centre, it would have been a sin not to climb to the mountain summit. Toughened up by our trips to the shop, we set off. Coach Nikodem became our guide; for our own good, he had run to the summit the day before and found a suitable route for our little ones. We set out immediately after breakfast and returned in time for lunch. The route was somewhat demanding, but after all, this was a sports camp. We were impressed by two of our six-year-olds, who kept up a good pace. This is where our motto, “Małe Smoki – duże możliwości”, proves true.
The mini-disco was also popular with the participants at this camp. Every evening, more and more people were willing to dance, and they quickly learned the dance routines. Music competitions were also very popular. Each disco featured a different challenge: freeze dance, limbo, forming groups and passing a soft pad. Only on the last evening did we repeat one of the games, at the request of our charges.
On the day of departure, certificates were presented for participation in the camp. For most of our charges, this was their first trip without their parents. Those who had kept their rooms clean throughout the trip were also rewarded. Afterwards, there was free time on the sports field, lunch, and then a trip to the petrol station, where the coach was waiting for us. Those who had won first place in the room-cleanliness competition could look forward to sweet prizes in the form of ice cream.
And so our Summer Sports Camp came to an end. See you next year!
