Report from the 2024 Taekwon-do Summer Camp – Poręba Wielka

The 2024 Taekwon-do Summer Camp combined a holiday adventure with sporting competition. For 12 days, our participants had the opportunity to improve their skills in the picturesque setting of Poręba Wielka.

A Sporting Paradise in the Heart of the Gorce Mountains

This year’s Taekwon-do Summer Camp took place in the picturesque village of Poręba Wielka, located approximately 60 km from Kraków. The participants stayed at the Youth Hostel, formerly the Children’s Holiday Home. The facility offered a spacious, fenced-in area with sports fields, playgrounds and a sports hall. The neighboring Termy Gorce, where campers could use the thermal pools, were an additional attraction.

Intensive Training

The main aim of the camp was to improve taekwon-do and kickboxing skills and prepare for the examination for student grades. Each day was filled with three training sessions that developed both the participants’ technique and fitness.

Combat Seminars with a Champion – James Reed at the Camp!

One of the biggest attractions of this year’s camp was a light-contact combat seminar led by James Reed, a multiple World, European and British Champion in taekwon-do. The seminars took place on 15 and 16 August 2024 and were an extraordinary opportunity to learn.

James Reed, representing Scotland, shared his experience by demonstrating light-contact combat techniques and strategies. The participants had the chance to improve their skills under the guidance of a champion, which will certainly remain in their memories for a long time.

Daily Games and Sports Activities

In addition to taekwon-do training, the campers had the opportunity to try their hand at various other sports. The daily schedule was full of activities that diversified their stay and also improved their physical fitness. The sports on offer included:

  • Swimming
  • Baseball
  • Football
  • Volleyball
  • Basketball
  • Climbing
  • Archery

Thanks to this, every participant could find something for themselves!

Mountain Adventure and Festival of Colors

There was also time for recreation and fun during the camp. One of the special days was a trip to the picturesque Gorce Mountains, where the participants could admire the beauty of the mountain landscapes and spend time actively outdoors. At the very end of the trip, one final attraction awaited our participants – a festival of colors!
All the campers took part in this joyful activity, throwing colorful powders into the air, creating an incredible atmosphere full of laughter and positive energy.

Summary – Sport, New Challenges and New Friendships

The Taekwon-do Summer Camp in Poręba Wielka was an exceptional opportunity for training, sporting competition and integration with peers. The camp ended with an examination for student grades, which for many was the culmination of their hard work during those 12 days.
