ABBREVIATED EVENT REGULATIONS
Special techniques
- The event consists of reaching a target with a foot technique at the highest possible level.
- Athletes compete by attempting to clear successive heights.
- Athletes have two attempts to hit the target at each level.
- Children may perform the technique from the ground; the striking surface and point of contact with the paddle are not judged.
- Older athletes jump and kick the paddle from below with the ap kumchi striking surface. They must land without any part of the body other than the feet touching the ground.
- In the event of a tie, the winner is the athlete who cleared the last height on the first attempt, while the competitors did so on the second.
- Previous rounds are then checked until the previous criterion is met.
- If there is still no decision, the shorter athlete wins.
Tempówki
- The event consists of performing the greatest number of kicks within the allotted time.
- Athletes compete against one another in a single round.
- Children perform ap chagi kicks for 15 seconds, alternating left and right legs.
- Younger Cadets perform dollyo chagi kicks for 15 seconds, first with one leg and then the other.
- Children use thai-pad targets, while Younger Cadets use L-shaped targets.
- The target height is adjusted to the kicking person’s belt height.
- Regardless of age group, the foot must touch the ground between successful kicks.
- For Younger Cadets, only techniques performed with a circular motion and an extended foot are counted.
- In the event of a tie, there is a tiebreaker, followed by victory for the athlete with the better technique.
Soft-stick
- The event consists of defeating an opponent on points in a fight with a foam stick.
- The fight is stopped after every strike for which points may be awarded.
- Scoring: entire head area – 2 points; other parts of the body except the hands – 1 point.
- Permitted techniques: strikes in all planes that do not cause the stick to be dropped – including thrusts and strikes after a turn.
- If the difference reaches 10 points during the fight, the bout ends by technical superiority.
- Bout duration is 1 round × 1.5 min; tiebreaker: 45 seconds.
- In the event of a tie, there is a tiebreaker, followed by fighting until the first winning action.
Patterns
- The event consists of defeating an opponent by presenting the pattern better.
- Athletes perform a traditional formal pattern selected by the judge in pairs.
- The highest pattern that may be proposed is the one required for the grade preceding the lower of the grades held by the pair, but within the Chon-Ji Tul–Choong-Moo Tul range.
- If the category concerns competitors below yellow belt, the following half-patterns may also be designated: Saju Jirugi (always) and Saju Makgi (when the lower grade is at least 9 kup).
- Judges decide the winner by pointing. To win the bout, an athlete must receive a majority of the votes.
- In the event of a tie, there is a tiebreaker requiring the winner to be indicated.
Semi-contact
- The event consists of defeating an opponent on points in a fight using hands and feet.
- The fight is stopped after every strike for which points may be awarded.
- Target areas: high zone – entire head area; middle zone – front and sides of the torso.
- Permitted techniques: hand techniques with the front or back of the fist (no spinning techniques), kicks using the foot or shin as the striking surface.
- Scoring: 1 point for a hand strike to the torso or head, 2 points for a leg strike to the torso, 3 points for a leg strike to the head.
- Penalties: 2 warnings constitute −1 point; 8 warnings (or 4 minus points) disqualify the athlete.
- If the difference reaches 10 points during the fight, the bout ends by technical superiority.
- Bout duration: children and Younger Cadets 1 round × 1.5 min; Cadets 2 rounds × 1.5 min.
- In the event of a tie, there is a tiebreaker (45 sec.), followed by fighting until the first winning action.
