“Actions speak louder than words” – Moravia is ours!

On the weekend of 29–30 October, the Moravia Open tournament took place in the Czech Republic, where athletes from our club competed in numerous Taekwon-do and kickboxing events. In kickboxing, our club took 3rd place in the overall standings!

FRIDAY

Already on Friday afternoon, everyone gathered for the trip, after which the athletes and coaches got into several cars and set off. Despite some problems with traffic jams, everyone reached the competition hall, where the athletes had to be weighed and registered for Taekwon-do, kickboxing, or both disciplines. After visiting the hall, the team got back into the cars and went to the hotel where accommodation had been booked. Because of a Czech national holiday, it was impossible to buy food locally on Friday, but everyone had food prepared that they could heat in the hotel kitchen and eat. After the meal, Coach Mikołaj organised an information meeting, during which he discussed with the other coaches and athletes what they could expect at the upcoming competition and established the most important organisational details. After the meeting ended, everyone went to their rooms and went to sleep in order to get a good rest before the first day of competition.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, some of the younger athletes and the seniors had the opportunity to compete in Taekwon-do, while our juniors and cadets faced their opponents in kickboxing. The Taekwon-do events began with patterns, followed after some time by sparring, while in kickboxing, competition in point-fighting, light-contact and kick-light continued from the start of the day. Due to the large number of mats and the different nature of the events, after finishing their own events the older athletes changed into corner-person attire and supported the rest of the team by monitoring the order of the bouts and checking the colour and proper condition of the fighting equipment. Thanks to this, despite the accumulation of kickboxing bouts, all our athletes could compete in their bouts at the same time while also having time to rest.

SUNDAY

After the first day of competition, some of our athletes had finished competing, while those who continued competed in a different discipline than on Saturday. The seniors who competed in Taekwon-do on Saturday fought in kickboxing on Sunday, while the juniors and cadets, after Saturday’s kickboxing contests, could compete in Taekwon-do events. At the same time, part of the team that did not compete on Sunday went to visit the Science and Technology Museum and the Old Ironworks located in Ostrava.

MONDAY

On the last day of the trip, the athletes and coaches who remained in the Czech Republic got into 3 cars and went to Ostrava, where they had the opportunity to visit the Science and Technology Museum. After spending 3 full hours learning about interesting topics in biology and physics, the team also walked around the huge complex of Old Ironworks buildings, and at the end of the visit sat down to eat pizza at a nearby restaurant. After lunch, everyone returned to the cars, and then all the vehicles set off on the return journey to Krakow. With successes, of course!
