WAKO European Kickboxing Championships

From 2–9 November 2024, the WAKO European Kickboxing Championships were held, bringing together the best competitors from across the continent. Among Poland’s representatives were also our athletes – Michał Klimek and Szymon Grzebyk, who proudly represented the white-and-red colors.

Ready to fight on the European stage

The championships in Athens were a huge challenge, but both Michał and Szymon entered the mats fully committed. Michał competed in two disciplines: light contact and point fighting in the -57 kg weight category. Szymon, meanwhile, competed in the light contact format in the -79 kg category.

Quarterfinals full of excitement

In the quarterfinals, both athletes faced experienced opponents.

Michał Klimek fought his second light contact bout on mat number 1, where he faced Greek fighter Athanasiosa Chaldoupisa. The bout was very even. Unfortunately, despite his great commitment, he ended his participation in the tournament in the quarterfinals. Huge applause for Michał for his fighting spirit and for representing our club and country on the European stage!

Szymon Grzebyk faced German fighter Marcem Grollem in the quarterfinals in the -79 kg category. The bout proved victorious for Szymon! He confidently defeated his opponent, earning a place in the medal zone.

Bronze medal for Szymon Grzebyk!

After his successful quarterfinal bout, Szymon Grzebyk finished his European Championships appearance with a brilliant achievement – a bronze medal in the light contact format in the -79 kg category! This is a huge success for both Szymon and our entire club.

Thanks to our representatives

Although Michał Klimek did not win a medal, his performance at the championships deserves great recognition. Competing at such a level is an experience that will pay off in the future. Michał showed that he can fight to the very end, regardless of the result.

Szymon Grzebyk returns to Poland with a bronze medal as one of the best athletes in his weight category. Congratulations to him on this tremendous success, and thank you for representing Poland and our club!
