Zosia and Michał at the World Championships

Two of our athletes—Zofia Zapolska and Michał Klimek—took part in the European Junior and Cadet Kickboxing Championships, held in Lido di Jesolo, Italy, from 30.09–09.10.2022.

For both of them, this was their debut at such a prestigious event, in which approximately 2,000 athletes competed. To qualify for this tournament, they had to be selected for the Polish national kickboxing team. Their results at the Polish Championships held in the first half of the year made this possible. In Bałtów, Zosia won two Polish Cadet Championship titles in the -60 kg category, in the pointfighting and lightcontact disciplines. Michał, in turn, won the title of Polish Vice-Champion in pointfighting at the Polish Championships in Zawiercie.

Unfortunately, they did not manage to bring home any medals. Michał Klimek narrowly lost both of his first bouts. Zofia Zapolska won several fights, but in both disciplines she finished her competition at the quarter-final stage.

Contrary to appearances, our young athletes are not far from moving higher up. What they lack most is experience in international kickboxing competitions, which we will make up for in the coming years.
